Our ministries

Evangelism

Witnessing to people we know, handing out and posting tracts, heading to local town centres to engage with people, but always faithfully proclaiming the unchanging word of truth.

Apologetics

Defending the faith by hosting events on topics such as creation, facilitating speakers throughout all levels of the scientific community. Creating opportunities for anyone willing to listen to learn more about how science supports the bible.

Youth work

Encouraging young people in their relationship with the Lord and equipping them as best we can for Christian life is important to us. One of the ways we do this is through our fantastic yearly conference Truth4Youth which attracts young people from all over the UK.

Outreach

Engaging with communities through activities such as carolling at Christmas time in local care homes, visiting and taking part in events in Schools, all important steps to build bridges and connect with those around us.

Online

Sharing our teaching online, we hope to reach more people than ever before in the hopes that we may be a blessing to those listening, and even more that we may share in the amazing gift of everlasting life welcoming new brothers and sisters into fellowship.

Leadership

 What we believe

  • The inspired, infallible and inerrant word of God. Fully sufficient and authoritative for all matters of life.

  • The Bible reveals that there is only one God who exists in three persons, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Each are co-equal in majesty and glory.

  • He is God incarnate. Both fully God and fully man. Eternally existing, but at a certain point inhabiting flesh, born of a virgin in Bethlehem. Living a sinless life, and willingly surrendering his earthly body to death on the cross. This death was substitutionary, He died in our place, and provided atonement for all, past and present. Jesus rose from the dead defeating death, and 40 days later ascended to heaven where He serves as our great high priest. One day He will return for His church, and then to rule the earth from the throne of His earthly progenitor David.

  • The third person of the Godhead. He convicts the world of sin, righteousness and judgment to come. He regenerates those who place their faith in Christ, baptizing them into the body of Christ at the moment of salvation. Permanently indwelling and sealing all believers, guaranteeing our eternal security.

  • God created all things and the Biblical passages describing creation should be taken literally. God created the stars, the heavens, the earth and all life. He also created a host of spiritual beings known as angels, which are either holy or fallen. Satan was the chief of them, but through pride fell into enmity against God. Man is the pinnacle of God's physical creation, and was created as the steward and ruler over the created order (until the fall).

  • Mankind is fallen through sin, rebellious towards God and consequently separated from Him. No-one is without Sin and so we stand condemned before a holy God.

Having tremendous grace towards us God offers sinners the free gift of salvation through faith in Christ, though we don’t deserve it. No act or promise of obedience (works) may be added to, or considered part of that faith as a condition for receiving everlasting life. The person who has trusted in Christ alone for salvation is forever justified and eternally secure. Justification, sanctification and glorification are three tenses or phases of salvation that should not be confused with one another.

  • The church and Israel are two distinct groups in God's plan and will be so eternally. Israel, the ethnic nation descended from Abraham, Isaac and Jacob with whom God has made particular irrevocable and as of yet unfulfilled covenant promises. The universal church began on the day of Pentecost and includes every believer who comes to trust Christ between Pentecost and the rapture. The church is a mystery unrevealed in the Old Testament, and has particular unique blessings. One of these is the baptism of the Holy Spirit that places a new believer into the body of Christ. The local church is a geographical gathering of believers to worship God, fellowship, pray and to study the scriptures together. The purpose of the church is to carry out the great commission, taking the gospel message to all.

  • We believe in the imminent, pre-tribulational return of Jesus Christ to rapture His church, which is the blessed hope of all believers. This is followed by a 7 year period of intense tribulation and wrath for those dwelling on the earth. After this Christ will have a pre-millennial return to earth to establish His kingdom, reigning from David’s throne for 1000 years and then forever.

History

The church was founded in 1662 by it’s original pastor Philip Lamb, though the congregation didn’t start meeting in the chapel at Butt Lane until 1893. Before this members met in private houses and later the Drax Hall. The chapel’s current site was donated by George James Wood of Athelhampton, built originally as a schoolhouse but later converted.
